BOSTON — Katherine Baker, partner, and chair of the Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP Gaming Industry Group, was recently quoted in an article published by PlayMA.com on Aug. 23 about the potential legalization of online casinos in Massachusetts. Currently, online lotteries are legal in 10 states and the District of Columbia. Online casinos, also known as iGaming, are legal in eight states.
While Baker does not think Massachusetts will legalize online lottery or iGaming by the end of the current legislative session, she said, “My view is that online lottery and iGaming are both inevitable in Massachusetts, but both have been displaced in the short term by the legalization of sports betting.”
