Law360 has selected Nelson Mullins as one of its 2021 Florida Powerhouses.

According to the publication, the firm demonstrated strong showings over the past year, including in real estate, health care and refinancings that saved regional expressway authorities millions of dollars.

The South Carolina-based firm's 2018 combination with longtime Florida stalwart Broad and Cassel was aimed at forming a "super-regional" combination to create a firm with deep coverage of the Southeastern U.S. and a national reach. Since then, Nelson Mullins has made the cut of standout Florida firms in two of the last three Florida Powerhouse selections — the series took a pause last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Florida real estate, Nelson Mullins' attorneys were active representing The Bainbridge Cos., sugar producer Florida Crystals and CTO Realty Growth in transactions spanning residential, commercial and retail sectors. The firm also served as outside counsel for the city of Ft. Myers in the $98 million redevelopment of its harborside.

Notable corporate deals include serving as lead counsel in a $30 million loan facility made by Iberiabank to Aero Miami III LLC to refinance its ground lease interest in an air cargo facility at Miami International Airport and representing the Miami-based Admobilize and Matrix Labs in their $19.5 million acquisition by Rokk3r.

Nelson Mullins also showed its litigation prowess this past year. Drawing again on its ties to the transportation sector, it obtained settlements for the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, which operates Orlando International Airport, in two cases with contractors involving a combined $21 million in claims.

The firm also took over representation for 13 EB-5 immigration investors who lost their capital and visa opportunities as a result of a Ponzi scheme, obtaining settlements with most defendants and a more than $23 million final judgment against the rest.
